Motivational Museum

Hi blog friends, how are your weekends going? I’ve had a great day. We didn’t have anything planned for today so we’ve just gone with the flow and had lots of fun.

Breakfast was a slice of toasted rye bread with cheesy scrambled eggs (2 eggs mixed and microwaved with a chopped babybel light added near the end of cooking) and a chopped peach.

We decided to head into Newcastle and visit a couple of the free entry museums. While we waited for them to open we popped into Starbucks for a coffee. I had a soy latte and added lots of cinnamon on top.

Lovely and creamy!

We visited the Hancock Museum and the Discovery Museum. I was very happy when I walked into the Hancock and saw that they had a special exhibition celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Great North Run:

I had a go on a little machine that you ran on for 30 seconds and it calculated how long it would take you to run the half marathon:

I’d be very happy if I could do it in this time! It was really motivational seeing the exhibition and what I’m going to be a part of in September – very useful for my 12 mile run in the morning!

We stopped by a newly discovered cafe called The Settle Down Cafe, it had a really great chilled out vibe which reminded me of some of the cafe’s we visited in Brighton. It had a great menu. I started with a pot of green tea and then had this salad which included 3 portions of each of the salads they had on offer that day: Broccoli sesame, chickpea with sunblush tomatoes and olives and coleslaw. I also had an apple.

This was delicious! I will definitely be making a return visit there. After our morning in town we called in to see the hubby’s Dad – I snacked on another apple taken straight from his apple tree in the back garden. It was crunchy and fresh – didn’t get a pic unfortunately!

Mid afternoon I snacked on some strawberries and blueberries.

I wanted to make sure that I had plenty of carbs in my system ready for tomorrows long run so I’ve ate quite a lot tonight! To start with I made a big quinoa salad including cucumber, orange pepper, red onion, carrot, chopped mint and basil and feta served on a big bed of cos lettuce and spinach.

Then I made a bowl of banana softserve using two frozen bananas blended with a little soy milk. I also added in some chopped dates for a bit of extra sugar!

They tasted like toffee chips, devine! I ended up making another bowl to eat while watching Twilight New Moon. I’ve also had a little bowl of brown rice puffs with raisins and hazelnuts just now.

Ok, now I’m officially stuffed and well fueled for tomorrow!

Home Week – Hallway

Here’s a few pics of our hallway:

What we did: We painted the dark window sill white to match the window frame, bought the unusual shelving unit from Ikea (£12.99) to act as a focal point and provide some storage at the top of the stairs. I added a candle, key bowl, basket for storing scarves and gloves etc and there’s a shelf for my bag to sit on. The hubby can store his shoes underneath and out of the way! All the other stuff such as the art work and mirror were existing.

Well, I’m going to make myself a kick ass playlist ready for the morning then get myself an early night. I’m a bit nervous about making sure I’m ready for my longest ever run, wish me luck guys! x
