TOTAL Greek Yoghurt Review

A few weeks ago I was kindly sent this huge haul of Total Greek Yoghurt to use and review for the blog:

I received several tubs of Total Full Fat Greek Yoghurt and a few little tubs of Total 0% fat Greek Yoghurt.

I’ve always been a huge fan of the 0% variety. Its tasty, low in fat and calories and high in protein so perfect for me. I had not tried the full fat version before.

My word when I first tried the full fat version I thought it tasted amazing! So creamy and delicious. I honestly found it tastier than the yoghurt I’d eaten when I’d actually been in Greece! Both versions have a very simple ingredients list too – cows milk, live yoghurt cultures and with the full fat version - milk cream, both have no artificial nasties to speak of.

I ate both versions of the yoghurt over the last couple of weeks, including using them in the following super tasty recipes:

Check out the Total website which has loads of recipes too!

I really enjoyed using the full fat version in baking, its a really versatile ingredient. As well as enjoying in baked goods and deserts I also liked it with just fruit, muesli, on top of porridge or granola, mixed with nut butter to make nut butter mousse and of course with some honey on top:

The only downside with these products is the cost, they are on the expensive side. In my local Sainbury’s a small tub (180g) of the 0% is 89p, 500g tub £2.29 for the 0% and £2.20 for the full fat (contains 5 100g servings, although I think my servings were usually a lot bigger!) However, in my opinion you would be hard pressed to find another product of comparable quality and taste for a similar cost. You do get slightly better value if you go for the big 500g tubs, and after using the big tubs and knowing that they last well in fridge for a good few days after opening, I would always go for the bigger size.

Personally, as much as I love the gorgeous creamy full fat version I think I will be keeping it for one off treats rather than a day to day stable as it contains a little too much saturated fat for my diet. I do love the 0% fat version and now that I have used the larger size pots I will probably be purchasing these more often when my grocery budget allows!

Another thing worth mentioning about the full fat version was that when eating this at breakfast I started to notice that I felt a lot fuller than usual, obviously the higher fat content along with the protein is a great filling combo.

Overall I really enjoyed using both products, they are both top quality in terms of taste and as they are very versatile they can be used in a number of different recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and desert. They are pricey, but I feel that this reflects the quality. I haven’t tried any of the cheaper supermarket ‘greek style yoghurt’ brands to compare them with but I’d be surprised if they tasted as nice as this. I will definitely be purchasing these again!

Total also do a 2% fat version of the yoghurt which unfortunately I didn’t get to sample. I would love to try this as it sounds like the ideal mix of the creamy taste of the full fat and the better nutritional profile of the 0%.

Have you tried Total Greek Yoghurt before? What did you think? Do you have any favourite recipes that use Greek yoghurt?
