Product review: Raw Health
Some time ago I was kindly sent some Raw Health Products for review:
I was sent some crisp breads, agave nectar, olives, chocolate and some energy balls. In addition to these products I thought it might also be useful to review some additional Raw Health products I have purchased myself including their apple cider vinegar and cacao brazil nut bliss spread.
Raw Health is a brand of Windmill Organics (other brands include Biona and Amisa). Windmill Organics is a British company founded in London in 1978. They offer a range of organic foods and pride themselves on offering the finest quality ingredients, non GMO and fully traceable ethically produced foods.
I first became interested in the Raw Health brand as I started to become aware of the benefits of raw and living foods such as better digestion and abundance of enzymes.
All Raw Health products are organic and where possible soaked and sprouted to increase digestibility.
Raw Crisp breads
I have tried the Intensely Italian, Provencale and Deeply Dense Pitta crisp breads and was not disappointed! All of these were so full of flavour. The crisp breads are made from a mix of flax seeds, nuts, buckwheat, vegetables and herbs so are pretty dense and filling – these are no ryvita that’s for sure! They are quite thick and have a nice crisp crunch. I tended to enjoy these crumbled on top of salads, part of a snacking plate with veggies and a dip or as an accompaniment for soup. These retail at £3.99 for a 100g pack via Goodness Direct.
Raw Agave Nectar
I was also sent the agave nectar to try out and I have to say this was utterly amazing. I usually just buy my agave from the supermarket and of course that tastes good too, but this is different. This has a much finer lighter texture and a mellower sweetness. I used it in some of my raw desserts such as my cookies and cream tarts:
It worked really well adding sweetness without over powering the flavour of the other ingredients This retails at £3.69 from Planet Organic.
Raw Energy Balls
I was sent two versions of the energy balls to try:
- Lemon Chia Seed Balls
- Blissed Chocada Truffles
The truffles reminded me of CCK’s Fudge Babies but much smoother. They are made from dates, cocoa butter and powder, agave and coconut oil. Of course these tasted amazing, but for the price I’d be tempted to stick to making my own version. The lemon chia seed balls were delicious as well, these contain dates, almonds, chia seeds, agave and lemon zest. Again, it would not be impossible to make your own version of these but if you lacked the time, ingredients or equipment these would be great. I enjoyed these as pre workout fuel – the dates and chia are great for giving you an energy boost. These retail at £2.39 for the lemon and £2.49 for the truffles from Planet Organic.
Raw Olives
I was sent the raw kalamata pure classic olives. They tasted wonderful, so much better than other jarred olives I’ve had before. They do contain their stones but its not such a hassle to pull them out. I have to admit other olives don’t really compete with these, they are my favourite by far. I enjoyed these in salads and on top of my raw pasta and sauce:
Raw Chocolate
I was sent the Very Cherry Raw Chocolate and the Heavenly Hemp Raw Chocolate to try, but in the past I’ve also tried the Zesty Orange Chocolate as well. I have to say I’m not a massive fan of these. They taste nice enough and are fairly low calorie compared to some other raw chocolates so you can indulge in a nice large portion, however they don’t rock my world the way other raw chocolates do. The texture of these is a bit grainy and I much prefer the crunch of this raw chocolate or the truffle like creaminess of this. When these bars retail at £4.99 I think there’s better options for a similar price.
Apple Cider Vinegar
I blogged about the Raw Health Apple Cider vinegar just last week – I really love this! It is rich in live enzymes and has a really nice tangy taste. I’m definitely going to be purchasing this again. It retails at £2.39 (Planet Organic) which I think is a really good price for such a versatile product. I’m even going to start experimenting with this as a toner for my skin!
Cacao Brazil Nut Bliss
I bought some of this last year from Whole Foods in London and I was hooked. It tastes fantastic, with a very deep chocolate flavour. The texture is a still ‘stiff’ – its not ‘drippy’ like some other nut butters but mixed with a little water to thin out it tasted superb on top of porridge and smoothies. I also enjoyed it for dipping with apples:
As brazil nuts are an excellent source of selenium this is a fun way to increase your intake! This retails at £3.49 for a small jar which I think is well worth it!
Overall I’m a really big fan of this brand. Although the products are expensive they are made of the highest quality organic ingredients. Even though I have my own dehydrator and can make some of my own raw foods, I’ll still be buying those crisp breads as they are too yummy. I will also definitely be purchasing the apple cider vinegar, cacao brazil nut bliss and agave nectar again too.
Have you tried any Raw Health products? What did you think?
