Delicious Fruity Cider
Happy weekend everyone! Hope you've all had a good day, I'm totally knackered from day time drinking so here's a quick post!
After I'd done my post last night I ended up having a bit of a snack attack. I had a bowl of brown rice puffs, grape nuts and raisins to sit and pick at and then when I had finished them I went back to the kitchen and filled a bowl with mixed nuts, raisins and dates.
I probably shouldn't have eaten them because I know it was just as a result of boredom, but these things happen! I did enjoy them though, and at least it wasn't a big bowl of crisps or something. So this morning I thought that I would try and keep breakfast fairly light, especially as I knew I would be out for lunch. I had a mug of warm water then I made up a layered pear crunch type thing with one chopped pear, cottage cheese, some grape nuts and a bit of agave. I also had a nice cup of green tea.
Considering this was a bit of a random breakfast it was totally tasty!
After breakie me and the hubby had a nice walk to the train station then headed into Newcastle to meet up with my in laws for drinks and lunch. I started off with a couple of bottles of cider that I have been wanting to try for ages. I had two Kopparberg Swedish Ciders, a winter fruit one and a pear one. Sorry about these photos, I just had my phone camera to hand when we were out and every where we went was dark!
These were delicious! The pear one tasted like pear drops sweets. They were quite strong, I know I'm a bit of a lightweight with alcohol but I was fairly tipsy after these!
We then headed to the in laws favourite Italian resturant. I had vegetable soup with a white buttered bun to start,
Followed by a huge bowl of penne arabiatta with a little parmesan cheese. I only managed about two thirds of this.
I enjoyed a couple of small glasses of red wine and a filter coffee with the meal. I really enjoyed the meal, the vegetable soup was very good and the arabiatta sauce tasted lovely and fresh. I did feel rather bloated afterwards, no doubt because my stomach isn't used to so much refined carbs in one go these days!
We went to a few other bars but I stuck to water to try and ease my bloating. I have also been finding that whenever I have a drink these days I just end up feeling really tired which sometimes just spoils the rest of the day / evening cause all I want to do is go home and sleep! I'm seriously considering not bothering with alcohol when I go out and seeing if I still enjoy myself as an alternative.
We got the train home and then got settled back in the house. I had an apple as a snack to hold me over till dinner.
For dinner I wanted something nice and healthy with some raw veg to help detox a bit of that alcohol. I baked a chicken breast with some garlic cloves and served it warm on a salad of mixed leaves, cucumber, grated carrot and chopped red onion with a dressing of garlic olive oil and balsamic vinigar.
For desert I had a fruit salad of two kiwi fruits, an orange and a chopped apple. These were just what I needed after my carb filled lunch!
Drinks - water, green tea, peppermint tea, coffee, soda water, decaf tea
How do you approach your intake of alcohol? I love red wine and usually don't go more than a couple of weeks without a glass or two but apart from that I'm not a big drinker. Those ciders were so tasty and made a nice change to wine but I think I would only have these very rarely. If you do drink, whats your favorite alcoholic drink?
Well, I'm sitting here now and I'm a bit tempted to go and get some chocolate out of the cupboard right now. However, I know I'll be getting chocolate tomorrow so I'm going to try not to cave! Hope you've all had a good day and have nice things planned for tomorrow. See ya! x
