Getting recognised and preparing for some changes

Hello everyone, hope you are having a great Sunday! What a perfect autumn weekend it has been!

The weather has been lovely. Thanks for all of your comments about the photo shoot, it was an amazing experience and I’m still buzzing from it all! This weekend has been mostly spent getting prepared for a few blog changes and a week of decorating at home, I’m currently sitting in a near empty living room!

Other than that it has been a chilled out weekend for me. Yesterday I got up and made some pancakes:

I made these protein pancakes with unsweetened vanilla life’s basics protein powder, egg whites, almond milk and baking powder. I topped them with smooshed defrosted frozen berries, almond butter sauce (just almond butter mixed with warm water) and maple syrup.

Then I went out for a look around Durham, its been ages since I’ve been into town as now that James works there every day he prefers to visit Newcastle for a change. I met up with a former work mate for a coffee and it was so good to see her. She has moved down to London (she was up in the North East last week or else I would have met her down there!) and it obviously suits her because she was glowing! I decided to wear some of my London purchases:

While I was out in Durham I was recognised by a blog reader! This is the first time this has happened and it was a lovely but surreal experience. Hello to the lovely girl from The Mugwump, you made my day!

Lunch was a simple salad with romaine, cucumber, red pepper, chickpeas and a tasty balsamic and hemp oil dressing:

I had a green smoothie and a few russet apples as snacks and then for dinner I took the lazy option and just steamed up some kale and broccoli topped with some lentil and root veg stew / soup that I had made last weekend and frozen:

As I’m trying to get my eats back on track after a particularly indulgent week this type of nourishing food has been just what the doctor ordered. I also made up a bowl of kabocha ‘ice cream’ by blending up some roasted kabocha squash with vanilla sun warrior, almond milk, cinnamon, ginger, ice and a little vanilla stevia with some goji berries and a sprinkle of sea salt on the top:

I did very little exercise last week so I was raring to go for my double class workout this morning. Before I hit the gym I had a green juice and a coconut oil blended coffee:

Photo 11-11-2012 08 26 31

The green juice was just my usual cucumber, celery, ginger, lemon blend - so delicious! My spin class and kettlecise class were brilliant, just what I needed to start feeling like myself again! For a proper breakfast when I got back I made a pumpkin scramble:

Photo 11-11-2012 11 27 18

2 eggs, egg whites, tinned pumpkin, cinnamon and ginger all scrambled up and topped with almond butter. As James said, I hope it tastes better than it looks and it certainly does, one of my fave meals at the moment!

Tonight we are off to see Lynyrd Skynyrd so I made us both giant stir fries for lunch:

I had a lot of veggies in the fridge that needs using up so a stir fry is always the way to go. James had quorn chicken, udon noodles, carrot, broccoli, spinach and red cabbage and mine had frozen soya beans, rainbow chard, red pepper, broccoli, red cabbage, carrot and ginger. That should leave room for a few treats later!

Blog updates

This week KHGS is making the big move from Blogger to self hosted Wordpress. This will mean that the blog may be down or intermittent for the next few days. I have no planned posts for next week, except for announcing the GIVEAWAY winner tomorrow, as I’m going to have to wait to see how long the transfer takes. At the same time, the blog is also going to be under going a make over. I hope that you will love the new design as much as I do!

Twitter / Instagram / Pinterest changes

This weekend I have changed my username on the above social media sites from @keephealthstyle to @lauraagarwilson

GIVEAWAY reminder

Just a few hours to enter my giveaway for a free registration to Meghan Telpner’s Foods for Healing Course – please check it out because it really is a fab prize!

How has your weekend been? What do you have planned for the week ahead? I’m kind of dreading all the upheaval with the decorating. Living in a very small flat there isn’t anywhere to hide from it really! Do you like decorating? If not how do you cope when your living space is a work in progress?

Print and Pattern

Hi everyone, hope your having a good week! This week is a pretty crazy one for me, yesterday I worked from home while we got our new carpet fitted in the bedroom. As we are in a little one bed flat this has meant that the whole place has been turned upside down! We also headed to Ikea last night and bought a new bed and mattress, it gets delivered tomorrow and I can’t wait!

Here’s a few images that I’m using for bedroom decor inspiration:

I really love the mix of different patterns and bright colours in each of these pics. See my Tumblr page for more inspiration!

As I said in Sunday’s post, I’m experiencing some IT band / sore knee issues right now. I’m trying very hard not to panic, the Great North Run is less than a month away and when I had this injury last year it took me a month to get running again. I don’t think its that bad this time but I’m still giving running a miss for a couple of days although I may try a short treadmill run tomorrow.

Yesterday morning instead of my usual 5k treadmill run I did 1 hour of cardio on the gym machines including the cross trainer, step machine, bike and rowing machine. I did 2 minutes medium intensity : 1 minute high intensity intervals. I finished up with my abs and core including my first ever 3 minute plank! My knee was fine apart from a bit of a twinge while on the cross trainer.

Breakfast yesterday was a delicious bowl of sweet fresh strawberries covered in some chocolate chia pudding (1 tbsp of chia seeds, 2 tbsp of viva pure chia porridge mix, 1 scoop of chocolate sun warrior and water):

For lunch I raided the freezer and had a bowl of my spicy black eye bean soup along with some raw juice pulp crackers:

It was nice to have soup for a change!

As I was working from home while the carpet got fitted I thought I’d make use of the blender and have a green smoothie as a snack:

P1090549

Spinach, frozen banana, soy milk, ice, stevia, maca, spirulina, msm crystals topped with coconut and freeze dried berries. This was such a great filling snack, it felt like a nice treat being able to have a smoothie!

As this week is shaping up to be a bit hectic I decided to take some of my own advice and make up a huge bean and veggie mix that I could use in several meals to save time:

P1090538

I mixed a tin of soya beans, frozen edamame, carrot, cucumber, radish, spring onion, red pepper, parsley and coriander in a big bowl and popped it in the fridge. For dinner I’ve eaten it with some wholegrain rice pilaf from a microwavable pouch alongside steamed rainbow chard and broccoli with shoyu:

P1090558

This was delicious, but unfortunately I’m worried that something in it made me poorly. Last night I spent several hours throwing up! Not fun :-( Luckily this morning I felt much better. I had a big bowl of peanut butter puffins, chopped apple, a spoonful of smooth peanut butter and some soy milk for breakfast:

P1090569

It felt good to get something back on my stomach. As I only had that bean and veggie mix prepped for lunch, I decided to risk it and eat it again. I had a big portion on top of some greens with my damson and balsamic dressing:

cameraroll-1314107135.402558

Luckily it didn’t make me poorly so I risked another portion with the rice again for dinner. I have to say it really did save me a lot of time having that prepped, all I’ve needed to do is wash and chop greens to go with it!

I also managed to fit in my gym session and body pump tonight, thankfully this Luna Bar gave me enough energy to get through the workout!

P1090572

I really liked this flavour, although I couldn’t taste many macadamias.

Tonight for dessert I had the usual post body pump bowl of protein ice cream:

P1090581

1 scoop of smore’s spirutein, water, ice, stevia and some chocolate sauce made with cocoa powder, water and agave. Perfect!

When it comes to home decor do you prefer the minimal look or do you like a lot of print and pattern? I have quite eclectic taste, I love to mix and match prints and patterns and different styles. I can’t wait until the whole room is finished, just curtains, bedding and accessories to get now :-)

Please check out blog sponsor Cat’s awesome giveaway over at Knitting, Running Eating – such a fab set of prizes, especially the teapigs, nakd goodies and hand knitted coasters!

See you tomorrow for What I ate Wednesday!

Perfect Pitta and Decorating ideas

Sooo glad its nearly Friday, this week has been a killer! Thanks for all your comments on yesterdays post, I love the vintage top and trousers combo too! I'll definitely be sporting that look on my up and coming trip down south.

Today started with Davina as usual. I'm really glad that I don't find her irritating or I'd be ready to throw my dumbbells through the TV by now, especially when you consider how often I do her DVD's!

Breakfast was a bowl of porridge made with jumbo oats and quinoa flakes, water, a splash of soy milk (totally converted to this now!) and a sachet of cookies and cream true whey I'd ordered to try out. I topped it with fresh strawberries, a tablespoon of fromage frais and some grape nuts.

Very tasty but I couldn't really taste the cookies and cream flavour which was disapointing!

Lunch was the most fabulous Turkey, Spinach and Caramelised Onion Hummus Pitta. I used a multi seeded food doctors pitta and layered it right up with 4 slices of turkey and plenty of the hummus and it was divine. I also had a few carrot sticks and bits of cucumber on the side.

I followed my pitta with a bowl of chopped peach and orange segments.

As I'm working late tonight (and hence why this post is coming at you early!) I decided to fill up with a big mid afternoon snack - wholegrain rice cakes with savory cottage cheese (cottage cheese with nutritional yeast) and some more carrot and cucumber.

So filling! I hope this keeps me going till later when I plan on snacking on this apple during this evenings event (to hopefully help me avoid the buffet, which is always minging anyway).

When I get home I'll probably have a cashew cookie nakd bar, another apple and perhaps a few strawberries.

I've been doing a bit of inspiration seeking for ideas for my flat over the last few days. Me and the hubby have a week off in August and we are planning on having a mini flat make over (well ok, I'm planning the make over, he's going to just have to go along with it!). I'll leave you with a few pretty pictures that have been giving me ideas, I can't wait to get started!

Image from Apartment Therapy - I love the little 'washing line' method of displaying post cards, photographs etc. I'm definitely planning on re creating that!

Image from BleuBird - a recent blog find and full of fantastic vintage home style. Another example of the 'washing line' feature. I just love how cosy this bedroom looks.

Image from Apartment Therapy - I love the beautiful mirror and the hooks for hanging necklaces from. Seeing as I have a huge collection of necklaces this would be a great way to display them.

Image from Apartment Therapy - I think my kitchen could do with some shelving - I love all the colourful crockery and printed glasses on display - practical and decorative at the same time!

Like I said, I'm looking forward to trying to re create some of these ideas in my own little flat. Do you enjoy decorating? I'm rubbish at DIY - I like to come up with the ideas and make someone else do the hard work ;-)
