Review: Brita 3 Way Dispenser
A few weeks ago I was contacted by Brita, the water filter specialists to see if I would be interested in trialling out one of their new range of 3 way dispenser taps. I jumped at the chance! I was already a fan of Brita having bought one of their jug filters after reading about the benefits of having filtered water in Crazy, Sexy Diet.
Some of the benefits of filtered water include:
- Improved taste
- Reduction of lime scale build up in kettle when making hot drinks due to reduced levels of lime in the water
- Reduction of chlorine, metals like lead and copper and other impurities
- Better tasting food when cooked in filtered water
I chose the Tourlan model which I felt would work well with the feel of my kitchen. Other models are available which would complement a more traditional kitchen as well.
The installation was very straightforward, a plumber came out to remove the old (ugly) tap and fit the new one along with the under the sink filter unit and the LED buzzer button that alerts you when you need to change the filter. The plumber was excellent and tested my water to check how long the filter cartridge would last until it needed changing, as well as showing me how to manually change the filter and use the LED buzzer button.

The filters are £36.60 each and need replacing every 3-6 months depending on the quality of the water in your area. As I was paying roughly £6 a month for cartridges for my fridge filter I don’t think the cost is too bad. All filter cartridges are also recyclable.

I’ve really loved having filtered water on tap. I’ve been using it in my smoothies, cooking my grains in it, using it in the kettle to make my tea, using it to make nut milk and of course for drinking! One of the great things about having the tap installed is how much its improved the style of the kitchen. The old tap was dated and ugly, having this elegant stylish tap has actually made a big difference to the whole room!
For this model of tap you would be looking at £183 plus delivery (its currently on special offer). Of course this would be a considerable purchase and you would have to weigh up the expensive versus the benefits for you. I do think that if you live in an area with particularly bad water quality this would be more than worth it. Also if you were looking to get a better tap then it could be worth investing in this at the same time.
What’s your thoughts on filtered water? Do you use a water filter? Would you consider having an at point water filter like this installed?
