WIAW: A little TLC

Hello everyone, happy Wednesday although because I was off work on Monday today feels like a Tuesday for me!

Peas and Crayons

Today’s WIAW are my eats and goings on from yesterday. I’ve been eating pretty differently from normal this week as I just haven’t been feeling myself. Over the last two weeks I’ve had that cold which got better but has now come back and is hanging around making me feel yuck. Alongside the sugar, dairy, caffeine and alcohol I consumed at the festival I really feel like I needed to give my body some serious TLC!

I started my day with the usual warm water and lemon juice then had a glass of water with some raw apple cider vinegar in it:

I love ACV for so many things, I use it as a facial toner and because this is a raw ACV it contains beneficial bacteria that are good for your digestion. I blogged a bit more about it here!

Then I made myself a big smoothie. I blended spinach, frozen strawberries, 2 heaping tbsp of coconut butter, maca powder, matcha green tea and water:

This may not look very appetising but it tasted very creamy from that coconut butter. I also went without my usual stevia – after I blogged about sugar alternatives it made me realise I was over due a sugar and sweetener cold turkey week to reset my taste buds.

Outfit of the Day:

It felt good to be back in some smarter clothes again!

Work was really busy after being off for a couple of days but I managed to squeeze in a snack of some raw cashews:

Lunch was a delicious big salad containing romaine lettuce, cucumber, carrot, red pepper, red onion, chickpeas and some dressing made with tahini and lemon juice:

Mid afternoon I snacked on a large pink lady apple:

After work I hit the gym for my first workout in 4 days! I did 30 minutes cardio on the machines before heading into my class, which because the usual instructor was off ended up being a Muscle Mix class instead of Body Pump. Oh my god it killed me! I had no idea what weights to use so I went with my usual Body Pump weights for each muscle group but it the moves were different, for example a lot more rows for our backs and raises with the bar for our shoulders. I am feeling it today!

For dinner I decided to make one of my favourite raw / cooked meals: Courgette noodles with almond miso sauce but with a baked sweet potato instead of the squash. I spiralised a courgette and made the sauce with 2 tbsp of almond butter, 1 tbsp of sweet white miso and water:

Simple but so tasty! A little later I made a large smoothie with some mixed frozen berries and a scoop of chocolate sun warrior:

Again, sans sweetener! I feel like my taste buds are already appreciating the break from stevia, although I know there is a little in the protein powder its still much less sweet than how I would usually have it.

Before bed I enjoyed a nice cup of Licorice Mint tea:

During the day I also drank a lot of water, Pukka Three Ginger tea and green tea.

Like I said, this is definitely not the usual amount of food I would eat but I do feel like its been exactly what I’ve needed. To complement my eating I also made sure I scheduled in some time to really relax before having an early night.

Although I feel a million times better I will most definitely be returning to normal eats very soon. How I eat normally is pretty damn healthy so I know I have no need to do any kind of dramatic detox! However I do want to keep on focusing on getting my greens in and doing everything I can to support my immune system and get my glow back! To say I am missing coffee is an understatement, however I am finding that going easy on the sweeteners and more sweet foods in general is really helping my energy levels and appreciation of naturally sweet foods.

Things I do when I need some TLC:

  • Early nights
  • Yoga (got that tonight!)
  • No heavily processed foods
  • ACV drink and miso soup every day
  • Green smoothie every day
  • Dry Skin brushing (when I remember)
  • Eating whenever I am hungry – just making sure it is something nourishing!

What do you do when you feel like your body needs a little extra TLC?
