Keeping healthy on holiday
This morning I did my last 30 Day Shred session for this months training plan. I did levels 1 and 3 back to back and as usual it was a killer! I'm glad this was my last session in a while, I'll probably be back to Davina next month.
I was starving after finishing the DVD so I made a lovely big bowl of porridge with jumbo oats and water then added some chocolate whey, defrosted cherries and flaked almonds to make Chocolate Cherry Bakewell Oats!
So delicious!
Lunch was another chicken salad with the usual veggies. This time I dressed the salad with plenty of ground black pepper and lemon juice.
I've now finally eaten all the chicken and salad veggies in the fridge! Although I've ate 4 chicken salads this week I have made an effort to change them up a bit by playing around with the veggies and dressings so the meals haven't felt too repetitive. I followed my salad with a chopped apple and orange.
Mid afternoon I had a quick vanilla protein shake. Its been all go since I finished work, I headed to my parents to pick up my big suitcase they had been storing for me (I had started packing my stuff in my smaller case, but unsurpisingly its not big enough!) before heading home and making a quick dinner. Never to be beaten, I decided to try the steamed fish dish again but this time with trout. I took the advice of a lovely anonymous commenter and made a bowl with some foil, added the trout, soy sauce, chopped spring onions, ginger and garlic and steamed for 15 minutes. I served it with a load of stir fried veggies - brocolli, bok choy, red pepper, courgette, asparagus and a few more spring onions.
This worked out so much better than my last attempt! I think the trout suited the flavours better than the cod, and stir frying the veggies worked better than steamed veggies.
I'm now in a mega rush to go and pick the hubby up from the station and go to visit his Sis as she has just moved back up north from Leeds and we want to see her before we go away. Then when we get home I'm planning on making a quick sweet egg white puff (2 egg whites, cinnamon, mixed spice, microwave, agave syrup) like this -
...and then I'll be cleaning the flat, starting to re pack stuff into the bigger case and painting my nails!
Oh, and just before I go, big thanks for those comments on keeping healthy on holiday, they have been very helpful. I think I'm going to aim for a balanced approach so that I'm not stuffing my face with rubbish, but if the opportunity to indulge in some good quality authentic food comes up I'm going to enjoy every bite. I'm also going to make an effort to incorporate a little bit of exercise through swimming, walking and perhaps a few strength and abs moves each morning.
I'll leave you with a couple of photos I took on my last summer holiday when we went to get married in Italy two years ago. The food was amazing and a comment to my last post from Jo reminded me of this. Check out the pizzas here -
...and the amazing gelato!
These were the best pizza and gelato I have ever eaten, just wonderful! The pizza had a fabulous stone baked doughy base, you could see them baking it freshly in front of you. The gelato flavours were incredible. Oh Italy how I miss you! Hope you all have a good evening, I'll be back tomorrow with pics of my perfectly painted nails (I hope!) x
