Health food haul
As promised in yesterdays post here’s a couple of pics of the wonderful stuff I picked up in Durham:
I just couldn’t help myself when I walked past a green grocers and saw big pumpkins for 99p, carrots with their tops on, and mooli roots / diakon. I also got 4 nectarines, 6 plums, a punnet of strawberries, large cucumber, more russet apples, 2 giant coxes apples, 3 big mushrooms, romaine lettuce and spring onions. All of that came to just over £10 which is actually better value than the food co op boxes, mmm I’m going to have to weigh up my options I think. Last night I ordered my organic box – 1 a month so we’ll see how that goes too.
Holland and Barratt had a buy one get one half price promotion so I decided to make the most of it and get a few items that I’ve been interested in trying out. I bought brown rice miso paste, soy mozzarella style cheese, hazelnut and almond rice milk, two cartons of vita coco coconut water, cinnamon tea, 2 mini green and blacks bars, giant 1kg tub of natural smooth peanut butter and some Linwoods ground flax with walnut, brazil nut, hazelnut and Q10. I also bought this soy ice cream:
It contains a lot of sugar but its organic and has a very short ingredients list. I had a sneaky taste and it was delicious! Thanks for your comments on yesterdays post – those who asked questions about the veg box scheme and where the vintage shops are check out the comments as I added the details there!
I started today with a run. I fuelled up with a pack of lemon infused nakd raisins. I really had to drag my arse out today, it was freezing outside and I just decided to take it easy and enjoy the bright frosty morning so my pace was way off my usual. I did around 6 miles stopping at the gym right near the end of my run to do 20 minutes on the bike. I don’t know what it was but I just fancied 20 minutes of no brainer exercise whilst reading a magazine. I then ran the rest of the way home and immediately made this delicious Butternut Smoothie with some frozen banana and ground flax mix added and topped with granola.
I’m so addicted to these right now :-)
I spent the morning making a big pan of lentil and spinach soup to freeze in batches and more chocolate avocado cups. For lunch I started with a cup of miso soup.
I’ve only ever tried miso soup from packets but this soup made from the paste tastes so much better. I had been reading about miso soup in The Kind Diet – I guess that’s what spurred me to buy it.
I then made a salad with spinach, romaine lettuce, chickpeas, kalamata olives, spring onions and a little tomato paste and olive oil as a dressing.
So yummy, still loving olives after so long of hating them! I finished lunch with an unpictured small pear and braeburn apple.
Tonight me and the hubby are off to see Joe Bonnamassa in Newcastle. Blues guitarists are more James thing but I enjoy any live music so I’m really looking forward to it. We don’t have a great budget so I don’t think we’ll be eating anywhere special – probably a Subway and Costas Coffee me thinks!
Hope your all enjoying your Sundays :-)
