Feeling in the mood for Spring!

On the news this morning they were saying that today should be the warmest day of the year so far in the North East. Its a shame that the horrible wind had to go and steal the warmth away! I've spent most of the day in my fleecy hoody to keep me warm as our office is an old drafty building. I'm still happy though as at least you can really feel that spring is finally on its way!

I didn't have to be in work till a bit later this morning so I thought I would try and work out for a few minutes longer. I did Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred Level two and the first two circuits of Level 3. I don't think I have ever sweated so much in my life! After that I had a serious craving for a green monster so used up the last of my bag of spinach (about 2 big handfuls) some frozen blueberries, oats, vanilla whey powder, ground flax and a tablespoon of peanut butter (I briefly considered not adding the pb to save on calories after my weight gain / excessive food this week but then I thought screw that! pb just makes this extra delicious.)

It looks a really strange colour but tastes fabulous! I got to sit down and savor it instead of having to rush about getting ready like usual which was lovely.

Lunch was another juicy nectarine - these taste beautiful at the moment, just the perfect ripeness!

Followed by another bowl of Chilli Bean soup. It was just what I needed to warm me up in the drafty office!

My mid afternoon snack was a pear and some cottage cheese

I was working late again tonight so I made up some dinner last night in the form of roast veggies (brocolli, sweet potato, red pepper, red onion) with diced turkey steak fried off in a little oil with hot chilli powder. I've never ever thought of roasting brocolli until I read about other bloggers doing it. It tastes lovely, will be doing it more often!

I've just got in from work having come home via the shops, got some lovely cabbage, brocolli and kale for over the weekend as well as a box of grape nuts as I've heard these talked about on blogs and fancied giving them a try. I was hungry when I got in so had a couple of rice cakes with cucumber and carrot.

I'll probably have another couple of those rice cakes in a bit as still hungry! I'm not counting these as evening snackies as I had planned on having them as I knew I would be hungry when getting home from work.

Drinks - water, green tea, decaf tea

Even though it hasn't felt that warm today my thoughts have been turning to Spring. Like everyone else I feel a spring clean coming on, I have loads of stuff I want to get done around the flat as well as refreshing some of my home accessories to be more spring like! I like to get new cushions, bedding, towels, bathroom and kitchen accessories (when I can afford them) in nice colours to brighten things up. I've already given my wardrobe a spring update but I haven't really been able to wear it much as its stayed so cold, so fingers crossed its sunshine from now on! Have any of you guys been in the spring clean mood?

So glad its Friday tomorrow, even though I'm working a few hours on Saturday I just can't wait for the weekend! I also have my weekly weigh in tomorrow so will be seeing if the pizza had done any damage or if my weigh gain / loss theory works! Wish me luck x

A suprise delivery and some interesting news!

I was up nice and early this morning for my last date with Jillian for a while! I did Level 3 and the last circuit of Level 2 of the 30 Day Shred. As I'll be changing my training plan this week I'll be using a different DVD for my strength workouts. I was really craving a green monster after that so I made one using two big handfuls of spinach, frozen blueberries, scoop of vanilla whey, ground flax, hazelnut and almond rice milk and a little bit of water. It goes a bit of a funny colour but tastes very good!

I had a really stressful morning at work, I was ready to go mental at several points but I managed to chill out a bit by mid morning. It was one of the teams birthdays at the weekend so we all stopped for a tea and cake break. I didn't have any cake, it was one of those awful frozen chocolate gateux things, if I'm going to have cake I at least want it to be something extra nice! I had a quick look at the ingredients list and it was a mile long, nuff said really! I had an apple instead.

*polishes halo*
We did have quite an interesting conversation about food, healthy diet and children while having our tea. We all agreed how much we liked what Jamie Oliver has been doing both in this country and now in the US, we had all been shocked when he had visited a school very near us and all the kids had been eating chips and beans and pot noodles for dinner, its just scary.

For lunch I had some sweet potato and cabbage soup from my frozen stash, it was really tasty.

Followed by a juicy nectarine.

Mid afternoon I had another apple and two babybel lights.

I finished work a bit earlier, which makes a lovely change for a Thursday and headed to my newly refurbished supermarket. I think I'm really sad but I was quite excited to go! I got a load of stuff, including some trout and organic beef mince from the reduced to clear section. I also got some packs of miso soup to try out. I made myself a bowl when I got in to hold me over till dinner. It tasted really nice and savory so will be good for when I get those cravings for salty savory things, plus its only 26 cals a bowl so you can't go wrong!

For dinner I made a big stir fry with chicken breast, brocolli, pak choy, carrot, orange pepper, red onion, ginger and soy sauce. It was lush!

Followed by a bowl of frozen raspberries with hazelnut and almond rice milk.

Drinks - water, green tea, decaf tea

Was nicely suprised when I got home when I found that I had recieved a lovely box of goodies from the people at Natural Balance Foods! I was so excited when I opened the box and saw all this stuff!

I'm really looking forward to trying all of these things out. When I have I might even have my first ever blog giveaway! Another bit of good news, as mentioned in a post earlier in the week, is that I got an email saying that I had been choosen as Health and Fitness magazines June Issue Reader of the Month! That means a little piece in the magazine about me and a photo, plus I get a little prize. I know its not a really big deal but I've never been in a magazine before so I was quite chuffed!

Well now that we are almost offically in the Easter weekend I thought I'd end todays post with something nice and spring like. I bought myself a big bunch of flowers so that even if its raining outside it would feel a little bit more like spring.

Hope you have all had a great week and are looking forward to the Easter break! x

Enjoying my food

Well I had my weigh in this morning and I am the same as last week. I guess thats not too bad considering the lager, wine, chicken kebab, chocolate, giant pizza, lemon tart (!) I've ate this week but it doesn't help me establish if I have a weight gain / loss pattern each month. I guess I will just have to see what happens next month! I've made the decision that I'm not going to obsess about it. I'm going to continue to eat and exercise as normal but put in extra effort to avoid the evening snackies and see where I go from there. Obviously if I continue to gain then I'll have to look at my food choices, but in the mean time I'm going to continue to enjoy my exercise and food as normal. Speaking of enjoying my food, I made a really gorgeous breakfast today - Greek Yoghurt and Pear Mess. I mixed up a pot of 0% fat greek yoghurt with 2 tablespoons of jumbo oats, brown rice puffs, grape nuts (loving these!) some flaked almonds and a chopped pear topped with a bit of agave. It was delicious!

Lunch was another nectarine and a bowl of sweet potato and cabbage soup.

As the weather is getting warmer I'll have to start thinking of more refreshing lunches instead of carby soups. I can't help but love my soups though, all those nutrious veggies and they fill you up, I might have to experiment with cold soups and more salad ideas.

Mid afternoon snack was two little juicy oranges and 2 babybel lights.

Dinner was more of my roast veggies (brocolli, red pepper, sweet potato and red onion) and a salmon fillet baked in the oven.

Drinks - water, green tea, decaf tea, regular tea, probably a skinny caramel latte later

Exercise - Rest Day

The weather has been so beautiful today, I even got my new spring shoes out!

I love these, they are comfortable like slippers and only cost £20 from Office. I know I'll wear these to death over the summer, total bargin! I also got to wear a blazer today instead of a coat, yey spring is here! If the weather stays good for tomorrow morning I think I may attempt my first 3 mile run! I'm really excited about it, I've mapped out my route and I'm going to use the Runkeeper app to track my pace. I'm not going to focus on my speed, just going the distance without stopping.

Well I'm now off to meet up with my cousin Catherine for a coffee and a mooch around the shops, this is the most fun I'm expecting from my working / cleaning / laundry weekend so I'm going to make the most of it! Hope everyone has had a good week and has a fab weekend ahead! xxx
